A Brian Brown custom from a member here. Dressed in ivory and red g10.
My next purchase will be a custom to my specs.

Whatever it is, unfortunately it hasn't shown up yet.
I have a bad internet connection so it may take a min.
My Palmeras, kept the 14 I have, chit canned the other 120,inc my filiys,no brainer for me,The cream always comes to the top.
Buying a specific razor didn't stop it. Realizing I have more to work through (restore) than I have time for did it. When I get through them, I will buy again.
A RAD Killer doesn't exist, IMO, I'm only slowed by the green stuff in my wallet.
Several western Iwasakis, and the realization that a razor is a razor and the looks will not make it a better shaver.
I 'd still definitely would jump on something that grabs my eye though.
I'm with Splashone here. When I looked in the drawer and saw a good dozen or so blades that needed attention I pretty much stopped looking to buy. Not that I'm averse to peeking into the odd antique store now and then...
Another thing was realizing that the handful of razors I have in regular rotation work really, really well. In other words, I feel no need to chase a 'better' blade. And then there was realizing that I had a bunch of other stored as well... I think it might be time to thin the herd one of these days. :)
My one exception to this: as soon as I have access to a forge again, I'll be like a pig in muck pursuing my next blade - but I'll be forging that one, and I don't think that counts.
There are two different pairs of razors that, while they didn't KILL my RAD, certainly changed it to a very different gear.
The Biennais 'Purple Monkey' razors from the Napoleonic officer's set was the first.
The second was the Green & Pickslay razors made with rhodium/iridium alloy, and scrimshawed with a family name.
I'd been really hoping they were the pair Charles Pickslay gave to Michael Faraday (which Faraday then gave to John Wilson Croker), but I can't find a trail from Croker to the owner. I can, however, trace Mr. Archbald's progeny across the Atlantic and to within about 100 miles of where I bought them from. So there's that. The fact that Archbald was a writer is a big cherry on top for me (as a writer).
I only have two left on my "Must Have Before I Die" list. An NOS DD Lifetime and a tamahagane Iwasaki western style. I like to keep my expectations realistic :D
My next one will be my last one!!!

I don't think I've seen a RAD killer. The problem with getting a great razor is that you then keep thinking what else is there out there that's as good or even better. My RAD slowed down when I got north of 120 razors. Realising that you're rarely going to get to shave with each one is a real bummer.
I've identified several along my journey in this sport.
After I acquired them, some new razor always popped up that I just had to have.
The Snake by Livi was one of those, but even that just lasted about a fortnight before I was eager checking the Fed-Ex site with my next tracking number:)
Is this a trick question?
I'm not going to jinx myself my Ralf Aust 6/8 with Olivewood scales came today and I'm not messing up now ! I see where your trying to trick me !
Thought i'd just got it a Fenney Tally Ho in reasonable shape and in my price range,it had several scratch's and i thought just been cleaned with some paper, turns out the blade is soft as butter and wont hold an edge so the search continues
My first japanese western. Defintiely not a RAD killer, but after using it a few times I realized that I don't need 50ish razors. I've since scaled down greatly and really only look for 'special' razors now. I still have on my 'must try' list a fili and a puma. I keep looking for decent ones that won't break the bank but have been unsuccessful thus far. I've never even seen a Palmera for sale :(
Chris
Mine (probably temporarily) was the last one, a Boker Silver steel extra hollow 6/8...but it wasn't because of the razor, it was because when I unwrapped it, my wife asked if I was planning on buying as many razors as I had guns. Made me think....
The one that broke the bank :roflmaoQuote:
What razor was a RAD killer for you?
Can't say it was a particular razor for me, just that I have a small collection of nice razors and don't really need more. It doesn't help that prices have risen dramatically over the last couple years, and I remember how much certain razors used to sell for compared to now.
After 35 straights...diff sizes,grinds,scales,steel, I have found some I like...and now have to sell off the rest..someday.
Like any addiction, you can only contain, not cure, it. Lack of funds and 'what am I going to do with all these?' has slowed me down. Only looking for a NOS, a custom and any odd ones along the way to the big barbershop in the sky. Thought I had a NOS awhile back. Damn the eBay tricksters! Actually looking at reducing my 35 razor rotation by at least 6 or 7. That is if I can develop any negative feelings about any of them.
This one helped slow it down

I could joke and say it may the next one but TBH, what slowed me down was a laok of funds and more discrimination in what I look for in a razor. The old WWI saying, "how you gonna keep them down on the farm after they've seen Paree ?" applies. I've had quite a few come and go, some of them have stayed. Razors I would buy 5 years ago I wouldn't even give a second look now. Referring to condition. Now it has to really be something that will add to my modest collection of keepers in some special way. The last one that filled that bill was a W&B For Barbers Only in pristine original condition. I already had the FBU but a FBO was hard to come by in pristine condition.
Well Jim, If the Blade is for Barbers only,by all rights it should be mine:)
Whip Finish: the natural way
The last razor I bought......that's only because it crushed my slush fund, it's only a matter of time until I correct that situation.
I can safely say that my Rad is now in remission :)
I used to have more razors but I am now down to my best 7 (enough for each day of the week) and sold the rest.
I cant say its only 1 razor that made me come to this realization but rather 1 razor from my favorite manufacturers. An old Filarmonica 14, a puma high class in 6/8 and a twin henckels 17. I will never part with those razors
This Hejestrand MK31 arrived and it may be a true RAD Killer
Awesome Helje! Congrats on adding it to your stable. I predict you will enjoy SRAD-Remission. Right up until it returns(:p).
One of my last two unicorns is on it's way as of last night: a tamahagane Iwasaki western style is inbound. I just have to complete payment and punch some airholes in a shipping container so my first-born is delivered well aspirated. Plus I never used that arm and leg anyway...
My limited edition Wacker definitely did, as did the DD's and W&B's I've bought. I havent bought a new blade in ages (other than to restore them), once I had the ones I liked the look of I just natually tapered off buying them.
Kropp 7/8. Finito la musica.
I never knew RAD died. From what I know, it can only subside for a while IF you stay on the boards. I have heard of some succesfully killing their AD but only at the price of not visiting any shave forums... ;)
RAD goes away until I see another W&B, that I know with some work will come right back to life...I've even narrowed my searches down to specific dollar ranges to try to limit, but then there they are, and next thing you know, another's in the mail, and that's fine with me.
